Capgras syndrome is a rare neuropsychiatric delusion where a person firmly believes that a close friend, spouse, or family member has been replaced by an identical imposter. Often caused by damage to brain regions responsible for facial recognition and emotional response, it results in a disconnect between recognizing a face and feeling the associated emotional bond.
